Runescape
Runescape is a fairly large online multiplayer game. There is the free version, and a version for paying members. Paying users have more benefits and opportunities than nonpaying users. This game would be considered a role playing game (rpg). In the beginning, you create and name a character of your choosing and go through several introductory levels. The game consists of worlds that you can join, and there are many factors that influence a character's ability. Your character becomes better at activities by practicing them. Each ability is rated specifically using levels. There are abilities such as fighting, cooking, mining, sorcery, and many more. Depending on the user's interests, his/her character may be tailored to one specific skill or many. You can meet other users and communicate/trade goods with them. It is also possible to travel to certain parts of the map and fight other characters to increase skill and sometimes win their belongings. Overall, it is a very addictive game, but like many other role-playing games, it takes time and patience to learn.

Tetris
Tetris is a fairly old and well-known computer/console game. Basically blocks of different shapes fall down towards the bottom of the screen, and the user has to rotate and move the blocks so that they fit in place with as few spaces as possible. The goal of the game is to get as many lines as possible. A line is just a continuous horizontal row of blocks without any spaces. When you get a line, it disappears and all of the blocks above it move down one line. After every ten lines, the speed of the falling blocks increases, and the user has less time to place them. The game eventually ends when the stacked blocks reaches the top of the screen so that no more blocks can fall. This would probably be classified into the arcade/puzzle genre.

Trace
Trace is a free game offered on the app store for the iphone and ipod touch. Although its concept is simple, it can provide hours of entertainment for the user. The game consists of a small stick figure that can be moved forwards, backwards, and can jump. The user needs to get him to the other side of the screen into a star shaped object. However, there are moving obstacles in each level, and if they are hit, the stick figure moves back to the beginning of the level. The only other two tools available for use are a pen and an eraser. You can can draw and also erase platforms for the stick figure to jump on to avoid the moving objects. The levels start off very easy, but as the game progresses, timing becomes key. This would probably be classified into the strategy category.

Tap Tap Revenge
Tap Tap is a free game offered on the app store for iphone and ipod touch. It is a similar concept to guitar hero and other games like that. There are three "lasers" that go across the screen, and music is played with a specific beat. Shiny spheres travel along the lasers towards the bottom of the screen where there is a place for you to tap the screen. As the spheres pass through that location, you have to hit it with your thumb or finger so that you are tapping to the beat of the music. The goal is to get as many points as possible by tapping at the right time and doing the bonuses (shaking the phone at the right time). The genre of this game would probably be music.

Labyrinth
This game is also designed for the iphone and is strategy/puzzle based. Using the iphone's built in accelerometers, the user tilts the phone in various directions to guide a metal ball through a maze. Throughout the maze are holes in which the ball can fall. If this happens, you have to start the level over again. There are also walls in the level that pose as obstacles. You complete each level when you get the metal ball into a hole with a black and white checker pattern on it.

Warcraft II
The warcraft games are fairly well known in the gaming world. Warcraft II is a fixed perspective 2 dimensional game. The two main races, humans and orcs, battle against one another. Each level usually starts the user off with very little. Sometimes you start with the lowest class of person, a peasant or peon, and a small amount of gold and lumber. Peasants and peons have the ability to construct buildings. To accomplish each level and eventually the game, you need to build a city/town and then an offensive army to wipe out the enemy. Every level starts out unexplored, and you need to send people out to find the enemy and resources before you are attacked. This is a role playing game because you need to use your resources around you (gold, trees, and oil) to upgrade your buildings, soldiers, and defense towers.
