12/1/2008 - Rebecca and Don Conry are pleased to announce the arrival of the newest member of the Chemistry Department, Jeremiah Cameron Conry, 8 lbs, 4 oz, 19.25 inches long, born 12:18 am December 1, 2008. See the 12/3 news item for photos.

10/2008 - Professor Whitney King receives $280,000 from the National Science Foundation for Collaborative Research: A Nanostructure Sensor for Measuring Dissolved Iron and Copper Concentrations in Coastal and Offshore Seawater.  This is a collaborative research project with Professors Mark Wells and Carl Tripp, both at the University of Maine.  Over 16 Colby students will be part of this work over the next 4 years and will have an opportunity to participate in oceanographic research off the coast of Maine and Hawaii.

7/2008 - Starting in the Fall of 2008 the Department of Chemistry at Colby College has adopted the new American Chemical Society guidelines for ACS certification of the major.  (ACS pulications:  WPCP_008491.pdf, Departmental Form: ACS Certification 2008.pdf).  Students should review these guidelines with their academic advisor.

7/2008 -  Post-doc Jay Wackerly has arrived at the Chemistry Department.  Jay will be working for Professor Jeff Katz in his Organic Chemistry laboratory, thanks to Professor Katz's NSF grant.  Jay will be joining us for two year.  He comes to us from Urbana, Illinois, and The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Please take a moment and welcome Jay and new wife Valerie, to Maine!
