-Discussion Question: The Structural adjustment policies require impoverished countries repay their debt so they are no longer dependent on foreign governments, but to do so they have to spend less on social services like schools and health services. What are some of the negative and positive consequences that could arise from this structuring?
b. Nick Thorkelson Cartoon On Neoliberalism in South Africa
-Even though it's a comic, this is still a fairly difficult topic to understand. A useful class activity would be to discuss the comic in class with students. Afterwards, have them separate into groups and design their own comics describing neoliberalism or structural adjustment.
