1. Class Activity: each student can be assigned this article as out of class reading, and in class the group can then construct a time-line of the events. Since many of the exact details of the genocide are unknown, students will most likely find this timeline difficult to construct and it will show how fuzzy the details of the genocide are
ii. 1999 NY Times article about that Gacaca Courts
1. These courts are a way of using quite old techniques with a very new kind of violence are genocide. This article and the exploration of the courts offers an intersection of old and new that is often see in the AP World history curriculum.
