The Story of Ali Osman and His Family

This is Ali Osman in 1988 when he was a small-scale farmer in the village of Banta on the Jubba River (Middle Jubba Region) with three wives and many children of varying ages from late 20s to a baby. He was a nationally recognized poet, renowned for his oratorical skills in a culture that celebrates poetic prowess as a mark of intelligence and wisdom. In addition to his three wives and numerous children, he also lived with and supported his divorced sister and her children, his elderly aunt, and orphaned neighbor children.
