Resources for K-12 Teachers
Below you will find lesson plans intended to complement this website and introduce students to the history, culture and lives of Somali Bantu refugees. The lesson plans are organized by grade level and separated into three thematic categories. They can be easily adapted for use in a single class period or used together for a longer unit. These exercises challenge each student to make a personal connection to the Somali Bantu refugee experience. The activities are meant to be fun and educational and students of all ages should be able to relate to the topics on multiple levels.
In preparing for your lessons, note that additional information about the history and experiences of Somali Bantus can be found both on this website and through these additional sources.
